DESIGN NAME: Dr. Ambedkar International Centre
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Convention Centre
INSPIRATION: The building form was derived on the personality of Dr. Ambedkar - Pure and honest hence a square (purest form) of 65m by 65m was taken as the footprint . The usable components revolved around a central open to sky atrium spanning the entire height of the building closed with a translucent dome. The dome is designed as the dharma chakra symbolic of the Constitution of India always casting its shadow on the ground at different time of the day.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The building was envisioned as a world class institution of national importance dedicated to multidimensional study of social justice and to afford and promote human rights, equality and need for the welfare of the society. The building form was derived around a central open to sky atrium spanning the entire height of the building closed with a translucent dome. The building facade follows the modern version of the architecture vocabulary of Lutyens delhi.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The centre is open to public and houses a convention centre of capacity 700 while 2 small auditoriums of capacity 100, exhibitions and offices.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in july 2015 in New delhi and finished in January 2018

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The building facade follows the modern version of the architecture vocabulary of Lutyens delhi. The facade has quarry finish sandstone cladding with a pattern derived from the preamble.
The welcoming and grand facades of the buildings are an amalgation of two thoughts, exterior reflecting the surrounding urban precinct of New delhi, architecture vocabulary of Lutyens delhi embedded with subtle elements of Buddhist Architecture.
The building is designed to be a daylit with fenestrations protected by Louvers and West face insulated by stone cladding. Local material has been used to the maximum.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The building foot print is 65 m x 65 m.

CHALLENGE: The difficult part of the project was to convince the development authorities and to seek approvals from various departments like forest, public works, Municipal authorities etc
