| DESIGN NAME: Glowing Seed PRIMARY FUNCTION: Illuminating Armchair INSPIRATION: The armchair is inspired by the linear cellular structure of wood grains observed at a microscopic level. The shape aims to be crafted in a compacted way keeping the chair as compact and petite as possible. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project takes on the analogy of a seed, petite in sight but full of potential (glowing at night with embedded LED). The combination of traditional material wooden plank and modern material (acrylic panel), brings a unique assent to the design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The armchair is best situate in an interior setting, public or private, and can be a decoration of its own, illuminating the space creating a moody atmosphere. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The chair is made out of a series of wooden panel and acrylic panels sandwiched together and hand smooth to specification for its unique look. NAME: Atelier PM PROFILE: Atelier PM is a collaborative platform founded by Australian Architect Paul Mak in 2016. The works cover from small scale furniture design to large scale architectural design throughout East Asia. Paul has been practicing architecture in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Melbourne and has won a number of prices, including the special winner award from the Achi-World academy first edition 2014 for his master thesis and finalist entry price for Hong Kong design competition in 2015. |
