DESIGN NAME: Pinta AT17INOX
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Handcrafted Sausage Tying Machine
INSPIRATION: Its curved shape follows the path of the casing from the base to the entrance and exit of the hole. To prevent it from cracking.
The shape of the hump adapts to the hand, it opens and closes to access the change of thread.
We seek with the warm and harmonic design to break the distance between the human and the machines
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Pinta" has been designed to optimize the process of handcrafted sausage tying. Due to the delicacy of the casing with which the artisan sausages are made, current automatic machines can not be used.
Pinta treats in a subtle way the delicate gut, and the operator can optimize this process that is currently done by hand. It occupies very little space and its cost is low.
Stainless steel, its curved aesthetics follow the path of the gut, inviting the operator to use it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The operator is placed in front of the machine with his hands free. The casing will go up the curve of the machine. He will pass the sausage casing through the upper hole until he decides its length with the spacer.
At this time, the operator will act with the foot and the machine managed in seconds the knot.
The operator moves the casing to make the next knot.
When the thread is worn, it can be changed by opening the upper hump of the machine.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2015 in Málaga and finished in May 2018 in Málaga.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Extensive use of stainless steel in both sheet metal and machining. Precision machined components allow that the machine by means of a pedal realize the knots to the sausage.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Physical dimension 350mm x 345mm x 700mm Package dimension 500mm x 400mm x 800mm Approximately 28,7kg package weight.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our market research did not show a functional market solution for this type of use. When studying the machinery of production, as the operators carry out the work of the artisanal way, the craft factories, the fundamental characteristics and the design criteria. First we made a first prototype on a real scale so that the manual of the drive of the mechanism was. Then it incorporates an automation with pedal drive to leave hands free to the operator. Realizes different working prototypes at real scale during the development of the design.
CHALLENGE: The real challenge was to design the mechanical components so that the binding result was the same as the manual binding, but faster.
Another challenge was to take excessive care in the forms and movements to avoid breaking the gut during its use.
