| DESIGN NAME: Guangzhou Wanda Mall PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mixed-Use Entertainment Center INSPIRATION: The conception of the Guangzhou Wanda Mall is rooted in the philosophy of lightness. The enclosure created is a continuous flowing series of aluminium panels that wrap around the building like a silk scarf blowing in the wind. The feminine nature of the facade has an elegance and sophistication fitting for a building of this scale that will be a remarkable contribution to the City of Guangzhou. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Guangzhou Wanda Mall is located in Guangzhou, it is a mixed-use architecture. The functions of the building contain Skiing Park, Water Park, Sports Park, Shopping Mall and Movie Theme Theater. The form of ribbon could be regarded as ski slopes and water waves to emphasize its functions. The main materials of the facade are aluminium panels and color glazed glass, with the snow and ribbon patterns painted on the panels. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2014, it is being constructed and will be finished construction in 2019. Located in Guangzhou, China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: Ribbon, Shopping Mall, retail, commercial, Entertainment, Guangzhou, China RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The massing of this project is huge, so it is important to choose a right material to build its enclosure. At first， we used expanded metal mesh, but due to the huge dimensions of the building, the construction effect is not good. Then we changed our design and try to use aluminium panels with glazed glass to build its facade.
