DESIGN NAME: Adriatico
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Textile Design
INSPIRATION: This project is inspired by the unique relationship between water and skin and the interplay between the two. Digitally created waves mimic free flowing water and echo the sensation of the fabric against your skin. Both the print and material come together for a contemporary appeal. The name Adriatico is inspired by and derived from the Adriatic Sea and the memories I made while spending time on the Adriatic coast.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project shows the innovation within the textile field, by using digital printing technology with a fabric strong enough to support upholstery. In order to create the optimum visual effect, we adjusted the saturation of the color before digital printing. This specific fabric has a rub count of 80 000.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The goal of the resulting work is to stimulate interior designers, architects and designers to think beyond the more obvious textiles and translate a connection to an organic element, in this case water, through the aesthetic. Bold interiors spaces that inspire can be created with the use of a distinctive textile.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: November 2017 to January 2008

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was done based on three fields: color, aesthetic aspects (outside of color) and innovative material. The prototypes were developed using the actual size of paper, after tests were done on different textile bases including: silk, cotton, linen and polyester. After much pattern experimentation, working in various scales and different color ways, the ideal final result with a repeat was chosen.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to visually translate the theme of water and fluidity in an innovative yet abstract way.
