DESIGN NAME: Peacocks
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring
INSPIRATION: I spent a lot of time walking through the secluded park near my home, which is a perfect place to observe the dozens of peafowls in a natural setting. Peafowls are very resilient and active birds, especially male birds. I was inspired by these graceful birds and their brightly colored feathers of iridescent blues, greens, browns, and gold.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The aim of this project was to create an elegant shape for a big size stone and implement peacocks into a design. To give this design an image of the dynamism of the peacocks battle, the ring was created asymmetric with smooth curves. Two figures of the peacocks shape the bezel for the center stone. The central gemstone represents a peahen and a desire to be with your beloved one.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This luxury ring is designed as a cocktail ring for wearing during specific occasions. It could be predominantly worn on the right hand, in order to provide yet more separation from engagement, wedding, eternity or other more personal rings.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project was originally designed in July 2017 and completed in March 2018, Carlsbad, CA

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This ring is created as a 3D CAD design within Matrix, printed the wax model on a 3D printer and produced by traditional lost-wax casting process with pink gold. Then the ring was pre-polished. The gemstones were set and final step was to buff the ring.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Finger Size 7; Dimensions 21x16.5x29mm.; 8.0 g. Pink Gold 14Kt
TAGS: fine jewelry, cocktail ring, fighting peacocks, garnet, emeralds, sapphires, pink gold, big central stone
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My research indicated that nobody ever created a ring with two fighting peacocks implemented into a design. Several rings were produced in the past with small size single bird, but not with two birds. Nobody ever tried to create a similar design for a big stone. The research was done using online tools and searches. Also, behavioral observations on the population of peafowls and a study of their anatomy from images helped to choose the positions of two fighting peacocks for the design. A wax model and a bronze prototype were created, in order to identify any structural defects and weak points.
CHALLENGE: Because of a jewelry scale, it is always more challenging to design a ring for a big gemstone than to create a ring utilizing small gems. The most important was not only to produce a ring for a big center stone with two incorporated figures of peacocks into a jewelry size object, but also to make this design elegant, compact, comfortable to wear, and simple to produce. To create an asymmetry of a ring was a challenge, but it helped to transmit a fight and a dynamic of two birds.
