DESIGN NAME: Poetic Hotel
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging
INSPIRATION: Increasing the premium nature and speaking to travel as an intimate, romantic experience was key. As a well-known resort brand, we wanted to step away from corporate language into a place of surprise and experience - making these design pieces act like the diary of a traveller, experiencing hotels in locations around the world. Luxury here was also critical: print techniques factored heavily into the design development.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A boutique, international hotel asked us to redesign their in-room amenities. Each piece: shower cap, nail kit, shaving kit and dental kit all came as requested items to a visitor. Since the visitor had already "bought" the experience of the hotel, excessive branding was not needed. Instead, the design taps into a luxury experience, by sharing poems and evocative writing about travel, discovery and escape. As an extra challenge, we placed the poems in 3 languages: Chinese, Arabic and English.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A visitor to the hotel would either enter a room and see these in the bathroom, or call down to the front desk and receive the selected items.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: 3 months, starting September 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of the key insights from the client was a need to connect to the 'instagram'; generation, one that would want to photograph these packages on the bathroom shelves, or share the stories they discovered in the packages.
CHALLENGE: In addition to finding the right writing and poetic approach, production partners also took a while to find, as well as buy-in from franchise members.
