| DESIGN NAME: Image PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sofa INSPIRATION: The design inspiration derives from the famous Chinese painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains of Yuan Dynasty which was from 1279 to 1368. Modern internationalized design language has been applied to reproduce the spirit of oriental landscapes and re-innovate the furniture designs based on tradition and nature.This is furniture adaptive to the aesthetic appreciation and lifestyle of youth. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: First, some new design languages are used to reflect traditional culture. Backrest of is wrapped with cloth in different colors to form the sense of depth of mountains, representing the masculine of male; the seat surface adopts transparent acrylic material which is just like transparent lake water, representing the blandness of female. Second, it has innovative point on process. Several kinds of materials are used in the design. Different handicraftsmen shall be gathered to do the work together. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The backrest represents mountains and the seat surface represents water. User sits on the sofa just like yachting among mountains and water in a leisurely mood. This is a new kind of emotional experience. Ergonomics is involved in the design of the backrest of sofa, thus ensuring the physical comfort of users. The sofa is designed with a tray which is tactfully combined with legs. Users can rest, drink tea, read and meditate on the sofa. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design and production lasted for 3 months from October 2017 to January 2018. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design integrated four materials: wood, acrylic, cloth, and metal or wood in cloth. To ensure sense of beauty and stability of structure, during the R&D process, different handicrafts men shall be gathered to do the work together. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Matching and connecting technology among materials are difficulties in production. For example, wooden legs are passing the acrylic directly and fixed. Cloth wraps up metal (or wood) and is fixed on acrylic.The Length is 1400mm,depth 600mm height 760mm. TAGS: Material collocation,Images RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After studying the Chinese landscape painting and the lifestyle of younger, the designer had carried out the design. CHALLENGE: There are two challenges in this project: first, how to interpret traditional culture in an innovative form to acquire modern and internationalized elements, break regional limits and allow more people to be recognized. This is one challenge. The second challenge comes from material and processing technology of the product. The design integrated four materials: wood, acrylic, cloth, and metal in cloth.
