DESIGN NAME: Kime Old Vase
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Design Object
INSPIRATION: I think that the value born by consuming time by moving people's hands and feet in manufacturing is one of the important factors. This object represents the power to consume reliable death though you do not know when someday you will visit humans. Its power is born by consuming luxuriously to use how to use a time that can be said to be useless from a utilitarian point of view. That is represented by rebuilding the existing vase by breaking down it and using ancient techniques of bonding.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This object is not to show expression such as design and aesthetic, but intended for the recipient to see the experiences of the author dying the time to death and the traces of that fact. I defined Kime that the labor consuming human death was visually appearing. Generally in Japan, Kime represents organic non-uniform things on the surface. In order to express Kime, I broke the existing vase and reconstruct it by Kintsugi, which is an adhesion act. This is traditional Japanese technology.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This object use as interior object and vase. This object can give an impression that it is not only one of the tool and decoration of interior, but also the strength of time-consuming handcraft which is not found in mass-produced items.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The work started in October 2017 in Tokyo and finished in January 2018 in Tokyo.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I incorporate Barthes's semiotics, the concept of time in Heidegger's books and concept of universal economics in Bataille's in my work. As a result, I found value in hierarchy and stratification of the meaning of one symbol and object, and assembled the concept from there. The act of laborious acts or the act of taking time mean that the creator uses the time until his death for production. Production acts can be said to the gorgeous act of time using until the death of the author.
CHALLENGE: It took a lot of time, several months, to make this fine work. The act of consuming meaningless time seemingly to destroy the original old large vase and rebuild it by Kintsugi.
