INSPIRATION: The design for Taipei Lè Architecture draws inspiration from the shape of the river pebbles, it develops the unique aesthetic that conveys the idea of softness and elegance as well as strength and character. Located in close proximity to the Jilong River, the surrounding environment provided architects with opportunity to propose a building that will redefine the skyline of this rapidly developing district.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The office space is planned to provide a highly efficient yet healthy and inspiring working environment. Canti-levered communal space incorporates the ‘urban living room’ with pantries, coffee shops, libraries and brainstorming areas, to promote creativity and catalyse interaction between office users. It majorly attracts small IT companies that eagerly demands such flexible and exchangeable working environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By taking inspiration from stone, the building integrates regional culture, and represents it in a contemporary building form. The perforated green façade, a representation of the moss on the stone brings air into office space. Interweaved with a series of interlocking 'Urban Living Room', the building is no longer a monolithic, static, impenetrable object, but a permeable, breathing mass filled with life.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The 18 storey office building is conceived as an ‘incubator of knowledge’ where innovative ideas being exchanged and turned to reality. The rounded silhouette of the north and south façades taper as it gets higher. The enclosed curtain wall harmonizes the outer structure, creating a series of outdoor balconies offering unparalleled views for the users.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In a place noted for its rich cultural history and increasingly adventurous cityscape, it only makes sense that this important addition to the urban-scape could refer the elegance of the local culture, and at the same time celebrate the excitement of the contemporary. This conceptual challenge is often faced by many architects working in China today.
CHALLENGE: The project design is highly sustainable and is LEED gold certificated. A breathable building envelope is introduced to increase the flexibility and diversity of the architectural facade, as well as to control the heat gain. The vertical aluminum fins are designed with certain distance and depth, they perform to control the amount of sunlight coming into the building.
