| DESIGN NAME: Free Walker PRIMARY FUNCTION: Overpass INSPIRATION: Free Walker is a project which will be constructed in the first half of 2018. Free Walker, productization overpass design, which sculpt idea comes from the flying airplane is designed fully considering about the geographical location and the human environment nearby. It is highly recognizable and just like a city sculpture. No matter which angle or position you are, Free Walker has extremely high aesthetic characteristics. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Free Walker is trying to find the balance between humanization and artistry. The structure of it breaks the stereotype so that it seems like only has one pier to sustain the overpass. Ingeniously, designers use the mechanical structure in a smart way. By using the steel-frame structure of the elevator and the shape of pavement and the bike lanes, the three point being force bearing point of the overpass become a perfect form in bracing structure. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Free Walker has pavement and bike lanes, which is not only for pedestrians but also for riders feel free to cross the road. On the one side of the Free Walker, designers set an elevator so that it will be easy for any kinds of human being such as babysitting-parents, the elder and the disabled. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The concept of Free Walker started in April 1, 2017 and finished in December 31, 2017 in LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio. Free Walker will be constructed in Taishan road, Huanggu District, LN 24, Shenyang, China in the first half of 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material of the bridge is made of reinforced concrete base. The bridge has steel frame structure, exterior bridge body is the steel plate spraying fluorocarbon paint. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 58000mm x Depth 3500mm x Height 8700mm TAGS: humanization, productization, landscape RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Free Walker is designed by considering surroundings. On the one side of Taishan road is a narrow pedestrian street and the other side of Taishan road has got a large area of open ground. From what has been discussed above, designers made a reasonable plan, which achieve the balance between humanization and artistry. Also, Free Walker is satisfy all kinds of users’ needing. It has got pavement, bike lanes and elevator so that it has highly practicability for all the people who need to cross the road. CHALLENGE: The challenge of our design is that we cannot find a reasonable way in it’s appearance which is satisfying in function at the beginning. After a certain number of sketching and discussing of our project, we finally find the proper selection which achieves the desired effect.
