| DESIGN NAME: Mix Mudguard PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunction mudguard INSPIRATION: Bicycle accessories are often installed on the bicycle piece by piece; this makes the bicycle look cumbersome and disorganized. We hope to integrate the accessories to make the bicycle look holistic and stylish. The mudguard is not a necessity; it is used when riding in poor climates or off-road riding. With this idea in mind, we have created the Mix Mudguard that can be flexibly removed and installed on the high-brightness warning light we have designed, to form a better visual warning effect. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Integration of Rear Light and the Mix Mudguard. The rear light is a warning device and stays on the bicycle by itself most of the time. However, when the weather condition is poor, you can simply and quickly install the Mix Mudguard. The warning light can be projected to the Mix Mudguard; the translucent Mix Mudguard can be penetrated by light to form a larger warning area. This increases the safety by providing a better warning signal when riding in poor weather. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Light components and the Mix Mudguard are the same as those available on themarket. To assemble to the rear Mix Mudguard on the light, it does not require any tools nor does it require any instruction. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design has started in February 2017 and is expected to be completed in July 2018. It will be in the Taipei Bicycle Exhibition in October 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Mudguard – made of plastic PP materials, it has a great resistance to the intensive shake caused by movement. It has a great stability that can be fixed sturdily on the bicycle and will not break in the event of a slight collision. Warning Lights- made of ABS materials, provides strong support and stability Transparent Light Cover – made of PC plastic materials (Use two AA batteries) SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Rear Lights 40mm x 98mm x 65mm front mudguard 83mm x 570mm x 127mm rear mudguard 83mm x 520mm x 50mm TAGS: mudguard，light，r RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We had interviewed dozens of bicycle users and have found: 1. Most users felt that there were too many accessories and the space was limited. 2. The accessories were unique and trendy; however, they looked incoherent and weird when put together. 3. Most female users felt that the accessories were difficult to assemble. Based on the feedbacks above, we redesign and integrate the two parts, rear light and mudguard, so that users can adjust according to their individual needs. CHALLENGE: The Mix Mudguard's greatest challenge is to project the light onto the Mudguard because it might reduce or affect the visibility of the warning light. Despite the challenge, we overcome the difficulty by increasing the area of the light to make riding at night safer. In addition, we have made the assembling process easy and simple. The design of Mix Mudguard does not affect the appearance of the bicycle and the installation does not require additional components and tools.
