| DESIGN NAME: Piano with Forest PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant INSPIRATION: I always have a dream to achieve which is every city should redefine at least one smiley building to bring along joy and happiness to citizen. Everyone listens to music, while piano is well known to everyone which it could be either solo or accompanied. So I decided to use piano as my first design concept of this project. Yet I would like to connect the city with forest, to maintain the greens and provide a good environment to interact with the citizen even in the main area of the city. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Smiley building brings along joy and relaxation to people, by going back to the origin. By enriching the level of spaces, the virtual and real of spaces to form a conflict but well interacted with each other in order to express its sense and aesthetic of spaces. To connect a touching story between people and music, the outdoor space allow people to walk gracefully on the biggest piano keys in Taiwan. The natural sunlight passes through from top and also the steel structure to the interior atrium, to reconnect with the exterior and feel the different of the shadow from time to time, just like a dancing shadow. The main wall of the reception is made by titanium metal, to form an elegant space. Before enter to the central atrium of the main space, we will first see the glass door with laser-cut tree trunk pattern, yet only enter to the atrium that connect with the natural sunlight. The sky-bridge on the 2nd floor allows the couples who organize a wedding dinner reception to receive blessings from the guests whom sitting below. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The repetition of PWF elements like color, texture, shape, and form is one of the easiest ways to achieve harmony to create a composition to interact with the user. However, the elements using in PWF combine to make a balanced, united and harmonious complete whole. The space feels right and everything works together. The result is a pleasing feeling, that everything is right with the space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project's interior started to construct in October 2016 in Taichung, Taiwan and finished in March 2017. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We’re trying to achieve a space that is fulfilled with music and relaxation and also to interact the forest from the exterior with the interior, to form a complete connection of music and forest. From the main walkway to the main entrance of PWF restaurant, we’d finally done one of the achievement of ours, the first technique used in Taiwan, which is the wooden-like printing cloned on the ground by using pure handmade only. This idea was made from a famous old tree, which we called it “God Tree” in Alishan, Taiwan. The glass windows form an opened space to allow natural sunlight to pass through from the exterior to the inside, which from the interior, we could see through by the visual from natural scenery outside such as water, sunlight, and trees. The use of complex structure in PWF interacted well between people and art, to express fully passionate by people in this country. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total of 3 stories, 1752 meter square. In this project, we’d accept the challenge of interacting the music with spaces. As time goes by, PWF is finally finished in march 2017.
