DESIGN NAME: Bengal Classical Music Festival 2016
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Festival
INSPIRATION: The client, Bengal foundation, uses an iconic sculpture of a musician sitting with his musical instrument as the souvenir for the artists. We visualized RAAGA, the core musical element of Indian classical music as a flowing wave around the contours of the sculpture, that symbolizes the musician, creating an abstract musical fabric, rendered by the colors generated from the 5 different Raagas based on 5 different times of a day: Dusk, Morning, Noon, Evening, and Dawn.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bengal Classical Music Festival is an annual event focusing on South Asian classical music which gathers various well-known artists from different countries.
In 2016, for their 5th event they wanted us to create the event's key visual to portray the energy classical music carries with it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is generated from visualizing a fabric flowing over the shape of the memento. The output is set of colorful waves and a rhythmic typography. The visual elements are simple yet bold and easily recognizable. These elements are versatile and can be used in a variety of items, such as posters, invitations, banners, t-shirts, badges, ID cards, and venue decorations.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2016 in Dhaka and finished in December 2016. The event took place in late November.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We put a fabric over the original memento and photographed different waves the fabric formed over the sculpture. We sketched over the photos and generated the colorful waves with basic tools in Adobe softwares.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The event focuses on South Asian Classical music which generates from the life and spirituality of this region. To respect the local origin of the music, we decided to use mostly local materials when producing different items for the event. The invitation card, the souvenir notebook etc. were made with local handmade paper and boards, and were hand-binded by local binders.
