DESIGN NAME: Totally Random Talking Cards
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Visual story telling playing cards
INSPIRATION: I loved to express visuals that could be infused into photo taking and selfies or welfies, and it had to be portable; having a series of interesting pictorial means more fun with taking photos in the everyday life. Humour never fails to make the day a giggly one. A smile creates sunshine. And times, it's also good to convey the mood you are in. With the Totally Random Playing cards, it's the perfect tool to convey your emotions and a ice breaking tool for the group to create stories!
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Perfect for visual story telling while travelling, or the everyday life, the Tee-Saurus random talking cards is a fun way to express the mood, create funny visual expressions using the random imageries like emoticons, icons and pictorials! From naughty interpretations like "Look like Shit", to "Good Idea", form romantic escapades like "Reserved just for the two of us", there is also cards for Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Anniversary. Browse a collection of illustrations and emotions.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This deck of cards does not only tell of emotions, it can be used to create visual storytelling; a group of friends can take a card each and challenge themselves to continue creating a story based on the visuals they draw. When it comes to taking visuals of food, it can be used to further enhance the imagery! Additionally, these cards act as a voting material if the food is either Instagram worthy recommended or simply bad quality!
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in Jan 2016. It was finished in Sept 2016, production was out on Jan 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The visuals had to be well thought out due to the different decks of a playing card. Thus the decks had to be implemented in a different visual direction. A set of emotions for the diamond deck, totally random pictorials like "Bulb", "Full Battery" for the heart and club deck and Pop illustrations for the Spade deck.
CHALLENGE: It was to how to house that many visuals into the multiple playing card pack. The designs can't be too similar as it might bore the audience. The solution after months of analysis as well as talking to people asking their opinions helped. The hardest part was deciding how could themes play a part in it. Consistency might not be a good idea here. After gathering feedback that totally random items were cool to the consumer, it was time to decide what imagery could fit. And it had to be tight. In the end, the four main icons (Club, diamond, heart and spade) each carried a different set of themed visuals like Pop Art and it worked wonders!
