DESIGN NAME: The Big Bounce Object
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Astrophysics Theory Sculpture
INSPIRATION: I am very interested in astrophysics and i read a lot about this kind of topic and at one point i thought i have to built an object about a familiar theory. I choose a theory about the big bang, (the big bounce theory). I wanted to combine a symmetrical and quadratic structure in general with the current scientific knowledge about our universe, the big bounce theory and the Fibonacci sequence.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This object represents a theoretical model of the origin of the universe. It combines the current scientific knowledge about our universe and the Fibonacci sequence. The Big Bounce Theory is one of several theories, dealing with the temporal ending and beginning of the universe and describes an oscillation of space and time. The object illustrates the familiar three dimensions known to us, and brings out the strong interrelation between time and space as well.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It is a free-hanging sculpture which one is in every aspect symmetrical. The color of the sculpture changes with different viewing angles from cooper to a very intense purple. Every observer has his own kind of gradient experience. Best shown in an height from the ground of a around 1300 mm.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2016 in Hamburg and finished in January 2017 in Hamburg, and was exhibited in Lueneburg in March 2017

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Copper and stainless steel - Watercuted shape, finished through sawing, grinding and polishing by hand. Especially the color gradient on the copper discs took a long time to figure out, which one fits my ideas best. But in the end there was a lot of routine and i was confident to adapt my method and the results to the copper discs.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 280 mm x Depth 280 mm x Height 280 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Reading books about astrophysics, especially from Stephen Hawking. Searching the web for theories about the big bang. The objective was to understand what is the theory standing for, what does that mean and how can i interpret this at its best in my graphical language. I had a correspondence with an astrophysics professor from the Max Planck Institut in Heidelberg, Germany about my strategy which aspects i want to combine and the finetunig of the description.
CHALLENGE: The symmetrical and quadratic structure was visually focused in the design from the beginning.
But after the first attempts to combine the current scientific knowledge about our universe, the Big Bounce Theory and the Fibonacci sequence, there was no symmetrical structure. After a couple of days of trying, i figured out how i have to put the 4 parameter together.
