| DESIGN NAME: Vale PRIMARY FUNCTION: Logo INSPIRATION: Vale bikes are handmade by an expert artisan. They are made of carbon fiber and also are exclusive and unique in design. The logo needed to appeal to elite customers who have discerning tastes, who want the best, rarest, exclusive bikes. It needed to depict freedom, speed, elite, seriousness and stealth. As the first step of my designing process, I conducted my research online. While researching I found out about the Peregrine Falcon and it's speed which inspired me to use as the logo-mark. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Vale logo is made up of a logo-mark and a logo-type. Logo-mark is a symbolic shape of the Peregrine Falcon. Peregrine Falcon is the world's fastest animal when nose-diving for prey. Which depicts the speed of the bike. It also conveys a feeling of racing. While diving, the falcon brings its wings close to its body. The wing is shaped into a thunder-bolt to depict the strength of the bike. In the negative space between the wing and its' body a path/road is formed which represents the name of the brand "Vale". Vale is a word derived from Latin and Old English meaning "Valley". Vale logo-type is a custom design typeface with similar features of the logo-mark. It contains uppercase, lowercase and number character sets. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Vale logo will be used digitally (on their website and social media), on print materials (stationary and marketing material) and on their bikes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2016 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and finished in January 2017 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and was exhibited in Simplicity Design Exhibition in September 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Based on my research I brainstormed ideas which suit the requirement. I sketched a few variations of the Peregrine Falcon and I decided to use the idea of the bird diving toward its' prey. Which depicts their tagline the best - "Ride Vale - be fast, be free!" SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The logo, logo-mark and the logo-type needs to be used or placed according to the Identity guidelines. (Please refer to the Attached Visual Identity Guidelines) TAGS: vale, carbon, fiber, bike, Australia RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was entirely based on the internet. During my research I found that the Peregrine Falcon is the world's fastest animal, which is capable of reaching speeds of over 320km/h when nose-diving for prey. CHALLENGE: The logo needed to reflect that the Vale bikes are rare and exclusive bike while they are strong and handmade. It also had to depict freedom, speed, elite and seriousness.
