| DESIGN NAME: SAYARI LAMP PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp INSPIRATION: The inspiration behind this design was fire.I wanted to create a lamp that mimics the fire flames but with a soft glow that would mimic the glow of the moon. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design of this lamp was inspired by the fire flames.Looking at the beautiful flames brought by the idea of creating a lamp which is decorative with what looks like flames.This lamp is unique because all of the pieces that make the flames part are hand made,the other unique feature of this piece is the shape and the hardwood used to make the frame which is called "mninga" from Tanzania. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This piece can be assembled on delivery. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2016 and finished the same year in Daressalaam,Tanzania.It is exhibited at Amorette Showroom in Daressalaam. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This piece was made using hard wood called "mninga" from Tanzania.Each and every piece was carefully carved by local artisans. All the pieces can be screwed in easily so it comes dissembled. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W 59" D 29" H 17" TAGS: Lamp, african, modern, decorative RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I wanted to design a lamp which would look like art and would have a soft glow around it,a bit like the way the moon gives its soft glow.After coming up with the initial sketches of the design I discussed with the craftsmen as to how we will get the effect I was going for.The varying lengths and placement was key to the design.Each piece had to be hand carved before assembly. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project was the production,ensuring that the pieces of the design come together perfectly.
