The classic Love is figurines, with their emblematic phrases below a naked couple, were the inspiration for us to create the Design is
project which started with an exhibition installation during the DW, Design Weekend, the largest urban design festival in Latin America. A limited, numbered and bilingual edition of the book with the same title was created in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the festival and officially released in November 2016.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Two hundred personalities, including designers, creators, curators, critics, journalists, entrepreneurs, executives, entity leaders and cultural agitators, coined their own definition of Design. Professionals who, in some fashion, dedicate their careers to fostering design as a culture and as a business. Together, they helped to weave a rich network of meanings and proposals, with multiple views on a single theme.
Design is a collective and collaborative activity. Celebrating the growth of this market in Brazil with a book that brings together a great community of creators and personalities of the world of design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The spatial dimension of the cubes presented in the exhibition installation is realized in the book using special round cuts, giving depth, like a dip. While reading, each section needs to be rotated by 90-degrees, a movement that invites the reader to interact with the work.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project began in April, two thousand sixteen and ended in November, two thousand sixteen. Its beginning was with the exhibition installation during the Design Weekend in Sao Paulo and ended with the launch of the book in November, two thousand sixteen

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
A cube shape was chosen for the exhibition because it displays several faces. In a similar way, this design feature is represented in the book in square format. Navigation in the book is presented in eight colors, with photos in style portrait, and the phrases about the universe of Design, unique and perceptive, that define each look. The contributors each had to synthesize what is design into a maximum of hundred characters, less than a tweet. Special papers and high-print, silk screen, plus die cuts give a superior result to the final product.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:

The research was conducted only for the production of the book. The study of the papers with their possible applications of special inks and how to make the 08 holes of the first pages were a hundred per cent centralized. Some finishing studies were necessary for us to achieve the expected result in the production of the book.
The exhibition facility sought to shift the experience of those who visited it, bringing two hundred suspended mobiles with the phrases and photos of the honorees. We spend so much time looking down on our screens, so I wanted to create a moment to look up. It is as if we are searching for every star in a constellation. Each has its own brilliance, but together they make up a universe to be explored. The biggest challenge was to transfer to the book the whole concept of the installation so that the visual language of both the book and the exhibition had the same style.
