| DESIGN NAME: Faebrew Cafe PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cafe, Coffee Bar INSPIRATION: Nature, Minimalism and Flight are the inspirations. The Nature theme in combination with minimalism, is meant to make the cafe look more interesting and less monotonous and cold. Fae of Cafe Faebrew means flying; the focal point of the wall panelling is designed from the meaning and formed like the plane's wings. The simple style for the space matches the cafe's business model, Craft Coffee, Bar Style. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Faebrew combines simple elements and fine craftmanship for a unique look. This project is a reinterpretation of the minimalist look, with natural materials such as reclaimed wood and felt defining the decor. In particular, the feature wall highlights individual geometric panels that connect together to form a giant plane, placed onto LED backlights. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The construction for the project started in May 2016 and finished in the end of August 2016. The cafe locates in Richmond, BC, Canada. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total interior space is approximately 63 square meter with 6 meter height ceiling. (675 square foot space; 45’ x 15', and 19'-8" ceiling height) TAGS: Cafe, Felt, Wall Panel, Nature, LED light, Minimalistic, Monotone, Craftsmanship, Retail Shop, Bar Counter RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The felt panelling for the feature wall is the most challenging for the design process. 1. Sourcing the good supplier for the material and finding the good millwork company who's willing to be challenged by the new ideas and also flexible in the limited working budget. 2. Compromising the original design and changing it to the smaller scale with the simpler shape due to the cost saving and the other aspects of concerns. Due to the productive decisions and the team work, we've solved all the problems and the result look amazing.
