Interview with Pauline Lin at Wednesday 22nd of February 2017 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? PL: Simple style, interesting Minimalism, fine Craftsmanship. FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? PL: Problems solved: Apply the creative design on the sounding absorptions and the good lightings in the space. Style crafted: Making this new cafe with an impressive style; that is unique simplicity mix with cool coziness. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? PL: About 2-3 weeks to finalize the image and the applicable materials for the geometric felt panels. The space layout/drawings and overall design were about one month. FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? PL: The design combines simple elements, fine craftsmanship and creative ideas for a unique look. This project is a reinterpretation of the minimalist look, with nature materials such as reclaimed wood, felt, and the special epoxy metallic concrete floor highlight of the area for an astonishing impact. FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? PL: The size of the felt/fabrics per roll The size of carpenter’s cutting table The costs for the materials and the labor FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? PL: Sharing the experiences and ideas with the other professions and designers.
