| DESIGN NAME: mifold® the Grab-and-Go Booster seat® PRIMARY FUNCTION: Grab-and-Go Booster INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from Jon's (mifold CEO) own need. Jon was living in the USA in 2000, his kids, who were little at the time, were involved in a lot of carpooling with neighbours. They had children in their car that didn’t have the right kind of booster seat, or his children were in other people’s cars without the right seating. Jon wanted a way of having a car seat that was so small that children could keep it with them in their school bag. Life was busy but in 2012 mifold started... UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: mifold® the Grab-and-Go booster seat® is the most advanced, compact and portable child car safety seat ever. It's more than 10 x smaller than a regular booster and just as safe. mifold works in the exact opposite way to a traditional booster seat, instead of lifting the child up, mifold brings the seatbelt down.mifold is great for: Taxi's, carpooling, 3-in-a-row, rental cars traveling, grandparents, and big kids feeling babyish. mifold is so small that kids can keep one with them at all times OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A regular booster seat is very simple: it lifts the child up and by lifting the child, putting the child in the position of an adult, so the lap belt goes on the bones of the hips, and the chest strap, which is supposed to rest on the bone of the shoulder, isn’t too high or rubbing on the neck of the child. mifold does the exact opposite. Instead of lifting the child up, the mifold holds the seatbelt down, and because it’s lowering the seatbelt, it doesn’t need to be so big and bulky.It’s the most compact booster seat ever invented because it is more than 10 x smaller than a regular booster seat and is just as safe. It can fit in the glove compartment or a child’s school bag, meaning they can take it on holiday without lugging around something heavy, or even use it in a taxi. It’s also a successful solution for grandparents who may see their grandkids now and then, maybe just at weekends, and don’t want to have the whole car cluttered with bulky car seats just for when the children are around. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: In 2012, a friend of the CEO Jon Sumroy sent him an article, some research done by the University of Michigan, which found that over 50% of kids in America were not using a car seat when carpooling. So, it started in 2012 in Israel, Raanana, and the mifold launched in 2015 through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. We have participated in various important shows especially in Cologne at the Kind Und Jugend in 2016, we have also won the Nasa Brief Tech Award for the design of mifold. |

NAME: Carfoldio Ltd PROFILE: Carfoldio ltd. worked extremely closely with Tiko Product Design Studio, to create mifold the Grab-and-Go booster seat. Carfoldio ltd. was born in January 2013, after Jon Sumroy CEO and Inventor of mifold, filed a patent to protect the idea of lowering seat-belt to fit a child. |
