DESIGN NAME: BEGOLA
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Bracelet
INSPIRATION: It all started on a rainy Sunday morning with several cups of coffee. My husband and I discussed the dreariness of the majority of designs and the drab sameness of the jewellery around us.
We agreed that something new had to be done; something colourful and cheerful. It should be sporty but also elegant and be appropriate for every occasion. So I pictured a meadow with colourful flowers, as painted by children, to be picked and made into a beautiful bouquet. Thus the idea for Begola was born.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Begola combines hand-crafted shapes, colours and materials. Begola charms -begols- come in either a floral or loop shape, with the flowers being uni or bicolor fire enameled and the loops with coloured cabochon gemstones. 18 enamel tones and 16 coloured gemstones are used. Uniquely, they do not slide around, providing comfort and security to the wearer. Bands come in 22 different colors and 9 lengths with a silver buckle. Lovingly-crafted from soft calf leather, they nestle comfortably around the wrist or the neck.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The combination of the Begols with a leather band and a silver buckle completes the finished product. The number of different or similar Begols worn on a leather band is limited only by the imagination and wishes of the wearer. The Begols are pushed onto the leather band. Due to the sophisticated design of the product, the Begols remain in the desired position, without slipping or falling off. The Begols are a registered design and therefore enjoy legal protection.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: From the initial idea, via the development of the first prototypes of the leather bands and the various Begols through to the completion of the first collection featuring its own custom-designed cases, the recognition of the brand Begola has taken four years.
Begola is produced in our own studios in Steinbach and in Pforzheim, Germany.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design is influenced by its functionality to ensure that the charms can be easily pushed onto different leather straps and at the same time remain at the desired location without slipping.
A further challenge was deciding on the right leather strap lengths. While researching peoples wrist sizes, we discovered that in most cases the circumference of the neck is twice as long as the circumference of the wrist. This inspired us to produce Begola as a piece of jewelry for the wrist as well as for the neck.
Making the product as allergy free as possible was also a milestone in developing Begola.
CHALLENGE: The hardest challenge in the development of Begola was and is the design of different Begola charms "Begols" which must be able to be pushed onto the Begola leather straps without difficulty and at the same time stay at the desired place on the leather strap without slipping while wearing the finished bracelet or necklace.
