The design is created as a part of the academic project. The brief created was to design a system to heat water for bathing, not to design a heater. Researches showed the potential of microwave in heating water and the methods to make it efficient. Considering the aspects of microwave and architectural provisions for water heater, the design and form is developed . The primary motive was to create a unique and efficient way to heat water for bathing in an instant.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Loop is an instant water heater which heats water just up to the bathing temperature range, avoiding the need of a mixer. It also saves a lot of energy by heating just the right amount of water to right temperature unlike conventional tank heater which heats same water over and over again. Microwave heating is used to heat water in mere seconds. Sensors ensure heating of water only when the water is flowing through the system, so no overheating. The compact loop design is just 300mm x 200mm.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
LOOP can be connected to electrical system like an electric bulb, we do not need a plug and cable for the device. The temperature can be controlled using the knob on the bottom of the longer hand (inlet hand) of the Loop. It allows three types of temperature control, 1) Hot 2)Warm 3) Off (Normal water) This limited control is provided for the user considering the fact that water anyone uses to take bath ranges from 39 degree C and 45 degree C. The most comfortable bathing temperature of any person is felt, not measured. The WARM and HOT would have temperature ranges of 39 degree C-42 degree C and 42 degree C -45 degree C respectively. This is also due to the observation that human body will not be able to tell the difference in temperature if it is increased by 1 degree C. This perfect bathing temperature avoids the need of a Mixer, also saves a lot of energy lost during cooling the hot water while mixing with cold water.
In cases where the LOOP is fixed at a place where it is not accessible, a regulator can be used, to control the temperature, which can be fixed on a switchboard.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in July 2016 in Department of Industrial Design, School of Planning and Architecture New Delhi, India and finished in October 2016

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The technology used is the energy absorption by water molecules when subjected to microwave radiation. Aluminium can be used as the main body of the product. sufficient water proofing, heat as well as flow sensors, magnetron and required accessories can be used. The inherent property of microwaves to heat water is used in the design making it an efficient heating system.

The aim of project was to design a product that gives hot water for uninterrupted and comfortable bathing experience. The idea was to create a new innovative method of water heating for bathing, also to eliminate the storage tank and introduce an instant water heating technique which would save both time and energy.
To identify a suitable, energy efficient and instant method of water heating unlike the traditional systems.
