DESIGN NAME:
Living in a Green Forest

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
House

INSPIRATION:
It is rarely seen an innovative design of a traditional street house in Taiwan. We notice that it seems that some people who choose to live in a street house are expecting something different because their needs of living space are gradually changed. Hence, on this project, we do not just provide a traditional way to design a street house, but start to assess the living space and to design a new model based on the traditional street house. As a result, in accordance with modern ideas, a new model of street house is created.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
We went against the traditional layout of kitchen, configuring it beside the front door rather than at back of the house. All the doors open towards the raised ceiling which encourages families to get together. The lavatory and staircase are placed at the east and west side of the building to keep the space dry and cool resulting in less air conditioning used. All the windows are faced towards the park whereas the doors are faced towards the open cut connecting the two to let the fresh air come inside the house. This form a sustainable, non-toxic, and non-pressure living space with the new design.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
As the house owner is very hospitable and often invites guests to taste their hand-made juice, we placed the location of kitchen and dining room on the ground floor. Against the traditional layout of kitchen, we configured it beside the front door rather than the back of the house. Further, we placed the living room to the first floor and open cut to the second floor. All the doors of the rooms were faced to the open cut which makes families meet and talk to each other. By the way of new space design, the family would get together all the time.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This building designed to be completed in 2014 and constructed to be completed in 2016.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
According to the sustainable design, the passive design was used when placing lavatory and staircase. They are placed at the east and west side of the building to make lavatory keep dry and cool. This would result in less air conditioning. Besides, all the windows of the rooms facing to the outside park while the doors of the rooms were faced to the open cut would connect the park and open cut of the living and let the fresh air come inside the house. It forms a non-toxic and non-pressure living space with the new design.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Four floors about 260 square meters , the first floor can be used for office in the future, in addition to the master bedroom, but also have three children's suites, fitness and auditorium, and reserved additional elevators space for the future .

The south of base facing the Park, it could adjust the indoor air, and it have big view. The width of base is not enough, it is close to the boundary line, and it will facing the temporary room in the future, it has big challenges in lighting and ventilation. The north of base beside the plan road, according to the low of local city, the building must plan to retreat from the boundary line.
