DESIGN NAME: Courtyard House
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The initial idea was to create a contemporary Chinese courtyard house with a looped shaped volume, a layout with individual living units and shared family spaces. They are connected by a looped corridor and separated by small light wells.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a 3-generation family house project that is build on top of an existing factory where the layout considers both individual and family space that is well balanced.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2011 in Taiwan and finished in 2014

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project aims to discover the living issue of 3 generation family living in a house, where different personal habits and privacy needs to be considered and also to provide shared space for family to get along with.
CHALLENGE: This project is built on top of a existing factory, where extended structure and services needs to be carefully considered.
It is then developed to use prefabricated panels and raised access floors to shorten the construction duration and to solve the service maintenance.
