| DESIGN NAME: "THE KOGANEI" Koganei Civic Center PRIMARY FUNCTION: Environmental Graphic Design INSPIRATION: We expressed shapes of park, river and spring water as a concrete form in the building based on the geographical features of Koganei city, filled with lush greenery and streams. A stage curtain for main hall is also designed by us as one of space components of this building, we selected “roads of Koganei city” for the motif of design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a public facility which has several functions such as large and small halls, lecture rooms and gallery etc. We are requested to introduce “something like Koganei city” into this building. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shape of this town, parks and rivers which show the above mentioned character of Koganei city are reflected on the several inner walls and we designed these graphics as the building identity with way finding system. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Painting on the exposed concrete wall with an airbrush using cutting dies. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Paint TAGS: Sign Design, Environmental Graphic Design, Paint RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Surprisingly facility users does not view their living area objectively. They also does not notice the existing valuable resources around them in their daily life. We did the research around the city, we found an identity. CHALLENGE: We focused the geographical features of city and used this motif as characteristic graphic for this building which is equipped with the exposed concrete expression and the unique atmosphere of main hall.
