| DESIGN NAME: ANGEL BENCH PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench INSPIRATION: An angel resting in a lawn, at the top of a hill, luminated by the sunshine. This view was what I imagined when I was walking around my farm, located in a small city near Sao Paulo. The idea stays at my mind until I returned to the house and made a quick sketch. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Angel is an unique and exclusively bench maded with 3 layers of an acrilic solid surface. It has an internal metalic struture in the seat, which sustents all the mass. The appearence is very light and minimalist and it can be used inside or outside and is appropriate for a gallery or a beautiful garden. The wings are molded by hand, after each layer stays 30 minutes inside an oven. After that, I have a few seconds to molt the shape wings and because of that, each Angel is unique. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main function is to serve as a seat. The Angel bench can be better appreciated in a gallerie or a beautiful garden. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project and manufacture takes four months. It was made in Sao Paulo, Brazil and it was presented for the first time at Paralela Movel, an important furniture design exhibition. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Angel was made with a Material called Staron, produced by Samsung. It is an Acrylic solid surface, and the shape of the wings was made by the designers hands, after stays about 30 minutes in an oven, and because of that, each Angel is different from aother. The bench is made by 3 layers of the material and has a steel structure inside for resistence. The heat after stay inside the oven is very high and there is just a few seconds to shape the desired curvature SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Color - White / 2000 x 770 x 970 / 2200 x 900 x 1100 / Staron is antibacterial, is moldable by heat and can be fixed with a special glue, also from Samsung. TAGS: angelbench, tiagocurioni, braziliandesign, design, furnituredesign, minimalist, productdesign, staron, samsung, bench RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The goal was to design something visually light, almost as if lifted flight and even stopped , demonstrating movement. The material choice should be something that convey purity and sense of homogeneity , without points of contamination or amendments. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was definitely the choice of material . Deciding a material demonstrating purity, plasticity and could be molded took a few weeks. After defining the Staron as chosen material, the challenge was to structure the Angel bench , since the material does not structure by it self. NAME: Tiago Curioni PROFILE: Tiago Curioni is an architect and urban planner, graduated from Mackenzie University, certified in eco-friendly architecture and sustainability. In 2014 postgraduated in Strategic Design at the Institute Europeo di Design, with experience in areas such as branding, research methodologies and project. As a designer he creates and implements pieces of furniture and lighting that is used in his interior design projects. In his studio, based in São Paulo, he uses various types of different materials, such as copper, steel and wood, revealing a dynamic and restless character of his production. Also appropriates the concept of up-cycling as transforming technical materials, collecting various elements disposed in the trash and transforming them into new forms, creating a new cycle of life. In 2015 participated of the MADE show; a major design exhibition in São Paulo. Confirmed participation in important design and art events in 2016 and will reveal new and unique pieces that are still unknown to the public. Currently, his artworks are found in important design galleries in São Paulo and can also be purchased directly in his studio. |
