The inspiration for this project came from the observation that our world is steadily becoming digital. There is a need to create something that is tangible and that will not get lost in our digital realm. The portfolio was created for personal use and served not only as a showcase of work but also a publication that people would want to keep and look back on or refer to.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This portfolio was created with the intention to send to prospective employers. It includes a cover that was not only designed to protect the book, but to showcase additional work as well as house a business card. It is important to have different versions of a portfolio and not just rely solely on a website. It was crafted with quality paper and hand stitched with the saddle stitch method in order to create a publication that people would want to keep and look back on for years.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The cover opens to expose the book and works as a sleeve to hold the business card.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was started in March 2015 and finished in April 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Graphics and Visual Communication Design
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
This book was bound by hand using the saddle stitch method. The cover and business card were both printed onto watercolor paper to make them look like they are a piece of art themselves. The inner pages of the publication were matte 120gsm China White paper because the texture really showed off the artwork at its best. The entire publication was designed using Adobe InDesign as well as importing art using Adobe Photoshop.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
When closed the publication is 150mm x 210mm. When open the publication is 386mm x 210mm. There are 46 pages.

The hardest challenge during this project was creating something I was happy with. It is always difficult when you are designing something for yourself, especially when it is something that completely represents yourself. You are always your hardest client.
