DESIGN NAME: Sense of Utility
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Ring
INSPIRATION: I want my design to appeal against planned obsolescence, as a major sustainability issue, which leads to tragic consequences for people and the Earth. I embrace the idea of Slow Fashion Theory of Prof. Fletcher, where the "prescription" is to buy less and to care more. So I created something which is encompassing usefulness, wearability, beauty and most importantly, it is going to last. What can be more timeless and fashionable than tastefully arranged table enjoyed by stylish people.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: My design represents a conceptual silver goblet ring, designed to be used, both as a statement jewellery piece and a tableware product. It is symbiosis between utility and jewellery. In fact, either on the body or on the table, it is jewellery which is embedding strong design aesthetics, sense of usefulness and wearability.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is conceptual hybrid between statement ring and tableware product. This beautiful object can play the role of statement ring, giving a pinch of sparkle dust to its owner. It can be used in pairs for love rituals such as engagements and weddings. This atmosphere become becomes full of bright emotions and joy.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2015 in London College of Fashion and finished in November 2015.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I made research over different aspects of sustainable development and ecology and came across to the theory of Prof Fletcher's academic work on Eco Fashion and sustainability projects. I embraced the idea of Slow Fashion. In order to twist myself into meaningful sustainable cause, I decided to create something useful which is going to last. I discovered how people associate Usefulness with objects of their closest surroundings.
CHALLENGE: the most difficult part of this project was estimating the optimal weight of the piece. It has to be heavy enough to stay firmly on the table but at the same time not too overweight in order to give a comfortable touch for pleasant interaction.
