DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Moscow State Symphony Orchestra

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Corporate identity

INSPIRATION:
The brand graphics and main visual theme – a fabric of music - are inspired by the orchestra performance during the concert, as music gets louder or low and takes form, then changes it and transforms again – like a flying swaying ribbon glittering in the dark.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The horn and the violin in the logo symbolize brass and strings sections, together these sections constitute a symphony orchestra. The ribbon with the orchestra name on it represents artistic performance, the flowing ribbon made of music notes and conductor's stick are used as additional brand graphics across various touchpoints. The ribbon can take any form, abstract or resembling musical instruments (violin, harp, horn etc), while it is developing as a fabric of music during the concert

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Branded graphic is a 3D renderings, so it can be used in any size and format. The idea of brand image allows you to create the required shape and size of the images for a variety of printing and posters.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project was started in 2009. The final implementations were made in 2015.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Graphics and Visual Communication Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The solution has been designed for bright and attractive implementation in printing products, posters and souvenirs. Graphics can be easily scaled to different sizes and formats, as created using 3D technology. To enhance the visual effect used a glossy varnish and gold foil stamping.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Stationery, invitations, program brochures, posters, bags

TAGS:
symphony orchestra, classical music, fabric of music, ribbon, musical notation, horn, violin

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
-

CHALLENGE:
An academic orchestra performs only classical music, so visual interpretations and graphics should suit the classics and can't be too modernist or ground-breaking. Classical concerts are high social events where showy visuals and elegant style are highly aprreciated. The variety of materials for the orchestra events and concerts needed a versatile and adaptable solution, which was delivered through unique visual three-dimensional language.
