DESIGN NAME: Breeze
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Artistic Plinth
INSPIRATION: This particular project main inspiration sources were: the tranquillity of the figure, the softness of the curves, and the name of the Sculpture: Suspension. The figure resembles a relaxing human female figure. While the position realistically would be a tense abdominal position, the soft curves of the form create the sense of fluidity. The Name Suspension means suspend in English. These clues lead us to create a fluid suspending system for the sculpture.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The uniqueness of plinth design is creating an object that improves the appreciation of the work of Art without interfering with the sculpture. We design the plinth utilizing the triangle composition style found on all times master pieces like Caravaggio’s or Bernini’s. Placing the sculpture at the top of the triangle, we work our way down the triangle. The plinth shapes is defined by perceiving the force and movement of the sculpture and counterbalance it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Artistic Plinth becomes an object that blends the sculpture with the environment. This interaction creates a balance environment that is perceived by the audience increasing the experience of Art Appreciation. It leads the spectators to naturally focus on the Sculpture.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project lasted four months.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Fine Arts and Art Installation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The production of plinth design requires utilizing all the tools from the designers tool box. The process begins with a photo session of the sculpture, and recollection of data. Photos are utilized f to begin sketching possibilities. This process narrows to one idea. The chosen idea enters a process of design, ten variations are created from which the final idea solution is created. From here the solution goes into the computer drafting department.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research comes from analytical observation of the Sculpture. The objective of the research is to understand the sensations the Artwork emits. It may seem subjective to the designer? Yet it is not, since the designer has to learn to understand the Sculpture and by that understanding the Artist. The objective is for the designer to become the sculpture itself to identify the needs of the user, in this case the sculpture. The methodology is to take advantage of any interaction with the Sculpture to learn about the piece.
CHALLENGE: The main obstacle on this work was the casted rod at the bottom of sculpture which functioned as support. Also the rod is where the sculpture has the Artist sign. The design was influenced very much for this object that could not the removed. So we thought what a magician or illusionist do? Hide and disguised. The other issue is social. Some people think sculptures should not be intervene in any ways, and other that think the opposite. Yet I is the collector who should decide.

Breeze is truly a magnificent example of art and design, seamlessly blending artistic expression with a functional purpose. The work utilizes the triangle composition style found in masterpieces by Caravaggio and Bernini to create a plinth that enhances the appreciation of the sculpture without detracting from it. The soft curves of the form create a sense of fluidity, while the research and design process carefully considered the sensations that the artwork emits. The production of the plinth also required ingenuity to accommodate the casted rod at the bottom of the sculpture, finding just the right balance between hiding and disguising it. The result is an award-winning work of art that demonstrates the highest standards of design and craftsmanship.

I am absolutely in awe of this beautiful design, the "Breeze". The artistic plinth has been designed with such finesse, with a perfect balance of the triangle composition style found in masterpieces from Caravaggio and Bernini. Not only does the design elevate the appreciation of the work of art, it also does so without interfering with the sculpture. The plinth shapes were intelligently designed to counterbalance the forces and movement of the sculpture. The inspiration for this work was also excellent, taking into account the tranquillity of the figure, the softness of the curves, and the name of the sculpture: Suspension. It is clear that the designer understood the sculpture and the needs of the user. The challenges faced were also impressive, especially the casted rod at the bottom of the sculpture and the social aspect, which the designer managed to tackle with great finesse. This truly is an outstanding work and a wonderful example of exceptional design.
