| DESIGN NAME: Tentative PRIMARY FUNCTION: Post Disaster Tent INSPIRATION: The product was inspired by the recent earthquakes that took place in Turkey, where there was a lack of qualified shelters for temporal living. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The compact disaster shelter is made of a fiber and a durable weather resistant textile which is quilted sewed and consists thermally insulated perlite in between. It uses a roof that helps in collecting water and providing lighting and ventilation. For the floor, thermal insulating recyclable composite decks are used and heat loss is prevented with the legs keeping tent floor high above the ground. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To fully expand Tentative, all we need to do is to open the covers used as a roof and floor, raise aluminum structural parts and the doors to provide stability and stretch the fabric between the roof and the floor. This innovative and instant installation provides rapid accommodation after a disaster struck. When completely opened individual tent provides enough interior space for two adults and two children to sleep. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was designed in July 2014 in Ankara. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Molded fiber, weather resistant textile (consists thermally insulated perlite), thermal insulating recyclable composite decks, aluminum SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Due its compact size - 4meters length, 2meters width, 2,5 meters height for open system and 30 centimeters height for closed system- , it is possible to transport 24 of this tent by a single semi-trailer truck to disaster zone. Has been designed to adopt to different situations, terrains and climates, Tentative offers disaster-victims with individual living space. CHALLENGE: After natural disasters many people become homeless, it is very crucial to provide sturdy temporary shelters that can handle complex structures and these shelters are needed quickly. Emerged as a solution, Tentative is a smart compact post disaster shelter tent. A simple yet innovative tent is a way to bring fast practical shelter to emergency disaster victims; the collapsible tent is flat packed for easy transport and is suitable for all climates.
