RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Contemporary functional design is very demanding. It means there exists a need to offer a transforming product with a lot of possibilities for the final customer. Our behavioral research was aimed at the studying of the children and adults reaction to the product. Our objective was to create a new design object that combines elements of the game with strict functionality. We used retrospective and structural analysis of Rubiks Snake as a toy and as a modular apparatus. For the data collection we watched our kids reaction to different toys. We also used books and Internet. From the beginning our lamp-toy was aimed at children. We showed all the models to children and looked at their reaction and their level of interest. But later we realized that the famous toy was interesting not only for kids but also for adults, which helped us to improve our design idea. As a result we have an object that is suitable for all ages. Despite the visual complexity of the lamp, its manufacturing is simple and has low costs.
CHALLENGE: The most difficult part of the project was connecting the sections. The question was how to prevent the cable from twisting during the movement and keeping the lamp working. Another objective was to keep each position of the lamp fixed. All he questions were resolved.
