DESIGN NAME: Eskju x Sneaker Freaker
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Limited Edition T-Shirt Packaging
INSPIRATION: Sneaker fans love to unbox! Thats why it became the main idea of the package to send the shirts in boxes. We wanted to combine analog techniques like screen-printing with modern typography and illustrations to get a special look. Signing and numbering by hand as well as the environment aspect makes the transformation perfect.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The task for us was to design and print a limited T-shirt with an illustration initially made for German magazine Sneaker Freaker. Simply print a T-shirt with our own illustration would not be enough. The package had to be affordable but cool, handmade and environment-friendly with a personal feel. We bought some cardboard boxes, the kind available everywhere and designed the surface with changing tonal values and a special mixed red color to increase the power of the logo. Graphic symbols combined with simple typography turned out to be a good decision.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Special T-shirt packaging inspired by pizza boxes. A substrate that can be considered cheap, economical but not quite valued by consumers, is transformed into a collectable, personalized for a selected few. A screenprinted monotone design centers around the "sneaker freaker" logo surrounded by a geometric atmosphere.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started September 2014. Conception, design and prepress took about 10 days. Print production was done in two days.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The illustration on the T-shirt is hand drawn and vectorized. The Shirt is screen-printed by hand with 4 screens between 47 and 79 mesh. The garment is a stanley and stella organic cotton t-shirt. We didn't want a CMYK look and choose spot colors with halftones instead. They are much more intense. The package was printed in 1 Step with water based color and 120 mesh. Color was used from printcolor. Litho, color separations, filmmaking, screen exposing and developing was made all made in our studio.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Package dimensions 250 mm x 350 mm x 45 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: 2014 when the guys from sneakerfreaker germany asked us to print limited T-shirts for their shop release they liked our detailed illustrations a lot. We came up with the idea to create a package with a high quality look but affordable in production and environmental friendly.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was the battle against time. Deadline was the long planned webshop opening and our product was be one of the specials.
We needed to be very quick in conception to make orders and get everything just in time. The production steps were familiar but there was only one try.
