| DESIGN NAME: Arc Calendar PRIMARY FUNCTION: Calendar INSPIRATION: YUPO is an environmentally friendly synthetic paper that is strongly resistant to water and tearing but can be freely printed and processed like paper. Not for use in print media alone, YUPO can be used to realize a multitude of possibilities. The Arc Calendar was created to make these qualities better known to YUPO users. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Arc Calendar is a promotional item produced for the Yupo Corporation, the manufacturer of Yupo synthetic paper. YUPO has water resistance and strength not found in paper but can be printed and processed like paper. This calendar expresses both the potential and the attraction of YUPO. Made from a single sheet, it is folded and assembled into a three-dimensional visual object with foreground, middle distance, and background in arc form. This item originated out of the client’s desire to create a promotional item that is at the same time a heartfelt gift that brings the recipient joy. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Arch Calendar is easy to assemble. No glue or scissors needed. Fold, bend and assemble each sheet to tour a variety of scenery from around the world throughout the year. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: “Arc Calendar” launched in June 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Printing on YUPO synthetic paper in ways that brilliantly reproduce colors and then delicately processing it requires specialized knowledge, abundant experience, and advanced technology. The Arc Calendar was realized through the finely detailed and highly advanced printing and processing technologies that are available in Japan, the country of quality manufacturing. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size: 102mm (H) x 123mm (W) x 51mm (D) TAGS: YUPO, Yupo Corporation, calendar, Japan RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Synthetic paper, YUPO is tougher and lighter than pulp papers. It has considerable aptitude for print. The Arc Calendar was produced to appeal these characters to customers and business partners. CHALLENGE: The Arc Calendar is designed with delicate motifs. It is very difficult to reproduce them by cutoff processing. NAME: Yupo Corporation PROFILE: Yupo Corporation was established in May of 1969 with the aim of commercializing petrochemical-based synthetic paper. It is a joint venture financed equally by Oji Paper Company, Ltd. (Now Oji Holdings Corporation) and by Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (now Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation). Our first machine at our Kashima plant (Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture) began operation in 1971, followed by a second and third in 1986 and 1990, respectively, establishing a supply network capable of providing a steady stream of products to both domestic and foreign markets. We launched full-scale production at our American plant in Chesapeake, Virginia in September, 1998, and we continue to work towards building and maintaining a stable supply structure at a global level. Following the commencement of direct European sales of the YUPO® brand in October, 2000, Oji-Yuka Synthetic Paper Co. Ltd. changed its corporate name to Yupo Corporation on January 1, 2001. With a large market share, Yupo Corporation is currently the top manufacturer of synthetic paper products worldwide. |
