| DESIGN NAME: big bang PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: It is inspired to the actual image of the big bang: a perfect circle placed in the middle and lots of sparks around it, placed on trajectories that all start from the centre of the circle. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The components of the big bang can be identified in the ring: the yellow gold and yellow beryls represent the core of the explosion; the top part, consisting of a large central diamond and trapezoid-cut diamonds set in white gold, represents the particles radiating towards the universe, and everything is held by a white gold band. I wanted to place the stones on two different levels to give a sense of the explosion, the outward movement and depth. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The ring is best worn on the middle finger or forefinger. Overall the aim is to create a unique piece and an exclusive fashion statement. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was developed in 2014 in Milano Italy, and it took around 40 days from the first roughs to the final pieces. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The first step was to find a way to combine the two levels of the ring and this was done by creating the bezel of the central diamond then passing it through a hole in the beryl pave and securing it with laser welding to the band. I mounted the stones and I welded the bezels between each other. In the last phase, I joined the bezels of the trapezoid diamonds to the bezel of the central diamond together with the basis of beryls and then I welded the central bezel to the band with the laser. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ring 32,9 gr - Dimensions: width 32 mm X 32 mm / height 33 mm TAGS: big bang, unique, diamonds, yellow gold, white gold, ring RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Inspiration derives from the images that represent the big bang. The object was born from the desire to transform an image into a piece of jewelry, trying to create it as close as possible to the image. The achievement is a piece of jewelry which is characterized by a central round diamond surrounded by trapezoid diamonds and yellow beryls that give the sense of the outward movement, creating the real image of the big bang explosion. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to try and create an object as close as possible to the image of the big bang, to be able to set it on two levels and be able to join the parts of the ring (central diamond, trapezoid diamonds, beryls and band), leaving the external stones more free, like the particles of the big bang.
