Interview with Nicola Botta at Thursday 12th of February 2015 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NB: my designs are often motivated by nature and in particular by aspects or elements of rare and exceptional beauty FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NB: the aim is to visually recreate the emotion that is aroused by nature FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NB: to increase my standing as a designer and to use the award for publicity in my shop and at international fairs that I take part in FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NB: I followed my inspiration FS: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself? NB: I produced this piece to be sold through jewellery outlets or directly to the customer FS: Who is the target customer for his design? NB: the piece is aimed at a target audience of consumers who want fine jewellery in a limited edition FS: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean? NB: the name derives from the Big Bang theory from which the universe was created FS: What is the most unique aspect of your design? NB: unique aspects of this project are: visual emotion, attention to detail and the uniqueness of the project FS: What is the role of technology in this particular design? NB: designed by CAD, prototyped, assembled and finished by hand FS: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept? NB: designing the ring on three levels FS: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition? NB: being a valued and unique item I thought it deserved to be part of an international design award
