DESIGN NAME: Private Collection
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Brooch
INSPIRATION: In the brooch Private Collection revives in some way the case cabinet in wich I collected all my treasures when I was a child. I am still collecting beautiful materials, gemstones, natural objects, but also some worthless materials which I found interesting. They provide the basis of my inspiration for jewellery objects. Nearly all my handmade pieces are one-of-a-kind objects, inspired of materials, colors and an unusual form but they all have to be wearable. They convey a certain meaning - if you want - they tell you a hidden story.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Private Collection is a part of a brooch collection which I began to create in 2013. In this project I mixed in all brooches precious materials with worthless finds. I think that the confrontation of the different value of the materials does not only contribute their complementary aesthetical increase but also produces a new synthesis. The experience of revalidation of the worthless materials is a fundamental source of my inspiration in this series.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Private Collection is wearable but can also be interesting for a jewellery collectioner.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The brooch has been designed in 2013 and finished in January 2014 after a few months of development.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Private Collection is talking about elapsing time. Everything will destroy, like the rusted iron. You can also see what geologic ages on earth produce, symbolized by a boulder opal which containes a whole landscape. The most personal meaning lies in the petrified tears cutted off aquamarine. The small snake shell tells about one of the oldest animal forms in geological history. All these parts merit a precious frame, realized with 18ct gold and sterling silver.
CHALLENGE: I had to create a design which gives the different materials a mutuel basis so that nothing destroys the meditative vibrancy of this object.
