| DESIGN NAME: STERLING PRIMARY FUNCTION: 3in1 Backpack, Briefcase & Shoulder Bag INSPIRATION: Inspired by the unpredictable pace of New York City, the bag is designed to adapt and change to any situation. Using traditional leather goods with an updated, modern twist on functionality, the Sterling is the epitome of timeless versatility. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Sterling is a manifestation of the unique demands of urban living, where the only constant is change. This bag is a one of a kind piece, unlike anything else in the market. The concept behind the Sterling, is a luxury 24-hour bag that can fulfill professional needs with its briefcase configuration, and leisure needs with its backpack and shoulder bag configurations. From work life to personal life, the Sterling's multi-functionality makes it the only bag you'll ever need all day! OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Sterling has been entirely designed with functionality in mind. All parts work together seamlessly to create an intuitive and easy to use process. The stainless steel fasteners are quick to remove and place and the straps can easily change the format and use of the bag depending on your needs. The front laser-cut pattern on the exterior of the bag along with the expandable lining, allow the bag to expand at your convenience. The beauty of the Nubuck leather is, that with wear and use, it acquires a unique personality and builds character over time, making every bag unique to the owner. All materials reflect high-quality, durability and cleverness. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Having had the experience of living in various, large urban cities such as Hong Kong, Barcelona and New York, one realizes that there wasn't a product in the market that was not only practical but beautiful as well. The bag is designed for the contemporary urbanite lifestyle, so it is compact and simple. The research and development for the form, function and materials started at the spring of 2013 and concluded with the final production samples realized by the summer 2014. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The biggest breakthrough achieved during development was perfecting a process that blended traditional leather goods production with modern technologies such as laser-cutting, custom fasteners and the implementation of new interior fibers that allow the bag to expand. Durable and sleek. It was an exciting challenging creating a process that combined the old with the new but the final results created a luxuriously sleek and durable bag. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: DIMENSIONS: 16"x11"x2& TAGS: fashion, accessories, bag, leather, design, multifunctional, minimalist, luxury, clever, fastener RESEARCH ABSTRACT: It took countless hours and dozens of prototypes to ensure all the components and mechanisms work well together. There was an excruciating amount of time paid to details like the size of the bag and the selection of high-quality materials, as so to create a special one-of-a-kind accessory that becomes part of your every day life. CHALLENGE: With so many design variations to the back-pack, shoulder bag and briefcase individually, it was challenging to design a unique blended piece that was would be timeless in taste and style. Most multi-functional bags in the market are meant for practicality but are not aesthetically beautiful, the Sterling is both. The use of classic materials and modern manufacturing technologies help create a product that transcends fashion trends.
