| DESIGN NAME: Wild Ribbon PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Urban design INSPIRATION: I'm so inspired by amphibious creatures who adapt themselves in function of their environment ; Under observation we see the same material that could adapt itself in function of different levels facing different environments . Which is so sustainable , time and material saving and natural ... Somehow so much like all human beings lives , we adapt our lifestyles facing obstacles , climate changing , problems and ... so why not our products ? UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To animate the eastern area (La place de la nation ) of Paris , I reached to a system of a connected ribbon who self adapts in it's functional aspects facing each corner of this square ( which connects Paris to it's eastern suburb ), this ribbon goes down with people into the subway area in all levels as "stair railing" and makes spaces beside the trains , comes up and makes moves on the ground to make compatibles spaces with every part the square , benches and etc . OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Let's give people an interactive zone in a multiply mixed sociological area , with different kinds of occupations and jobs , in the east terminal point of Paris , a dead zone square with a lot of potentials to be more fun , creative and giving PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started as a concept in Spring 2004 in Paris and finished in 2 months in Paris , and was exhibited in Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in summer 2004 to Peter Cook and got a good feedback at that time . I started the 3D modelings in august 2014 and finished the modeling in september 2014 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: i started with making a carton model of the square ( as you see in the pictures) and then by studying and analyzing all around the square's type of people (working ,passing , .. ) who deal with this zone , I reached to a program , like in front of the high school part I made a cyber cafe with the ribbons movement creating space , so that this ribbon ( which feels so being alive to me ) goes through the square and every time in function of the sociology of the zone it makes different type of spaces SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: this ribbon can be treated in plastic or fiberglass which allows the structure to go more free and more adaptable . It's dimensions differ every time facing each existing object or zones of the square TAGS: Urban, Multifunction, Street, Furniture, design, Paris, Adaptation, Freetime, Conceptual RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I started with interviewing people in different hours of the day and different days of the week , and also some geographical researches on the city maps ( since 1850 ) to see it's changes during the time and it's importance and functions .The results were stunning , there was an immense range of people from kids to old ones passing their time there, and the square has more potentials than being just a square to those people (who are going home after their work in Paris toward suburbs ) . CHALLENGE: I concluded the researches to a problematic which was an abandoned square place full of social and geographical potentials , and to give a solution I tried to do it more minimal possible as the square was already so crowded with a huge variety of people in different social levels , so I just put that in mind that here "The less is more" is the key , so just one item which changes it's quality of function facing different areas and people , and that was pretty difficult to keep in mind the underground/on the ground , kids/old , free-times/working time ,... all these contradictory aspects together and answer them with one and only one solution ADDED DATE: 2014-09-21 12:58:56 TEAM MEMBERS (1) : designer : Noushin Jafari IMAGE CREDITS: all images : Pooya Abbasian (Graphist,Animator), 2014 |
