PRIMARY FUNCTION: House Building System
INSPIRATION: e-DOMI Design Team is convinced, that the traditional rules applied in residential architecture do not solve many problems. We looked at winter jackets, where thermal function is inside, while outside material makes sure the jacket resist wind and looks modern. That was our inspiration for CORE & SHELL concept.
We looked at cars drainage system? Leaving a gap between parts, so the water or melted snow can freely fall to the ground - that inspired us to create a gap between CORE and the SHELL.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: e-DOMI is a revolutionary system for house building in which
traditional rules of construction and architecture are redefined. Our original "CORE & SHELL" concept facilitates two main functions: freeform shaping of the exterior "SHELL", unrestricted by interior design/installations, while achieving excellent thermal "CORE" insulation by usage of hi-tech renewable materials. Energy efficiency is also provided by detachment from the ground - main cause of energy loss.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: e-DOMI system provides an opportunity to update the external design of the facade in much easier way than it is in traditional residential architecture. Because of this, the house can always look fresh, modern, like the owner wishes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: At this moment, the first house in e-DOMI system is being erected in Poland, in Tychy. The construction started in August 2014.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: e-DOMI is a simple and efficient building system technology. Its self-supporting structure is detached from the ground, Outer walls are made out of sandwich panels. This is the CORE. Outside of construction site, the SHELL is being prepared. The SHELL can be actually carved out on any sustainable material, in any shape, using for example CNC milling technology.
In the end, the SHELL is being wrapped around the CORE leaving a gap, through which rain or snow falls freely to the ground.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Although modular steel construction technology provides endless solutions in terms of size of the building, images show a simple, ca.250m2 house, as an example of e-DOMI system. The main image visualise how group of these Houses can create an extraordinary landscape and although they all share exactly the same "CORE", outside they all look different. In one of the optional images, you can see the other examples how the external "SHELL" can vary as a result of client's vision or fashion.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We asked ourselves how can we imagine a perfect house for us? How can we create affordable system of house building for young people? In terms of technical background, we used experience with energy efficient office buildings. We felt we could apply some of these solutions also to the residental architecture.
Exterior design is a result of hundreds sketches and cad models. We used also physical scale models to experiment with the volumes and dimensions.
CHALLENGE: Since our goal was to make as simple system as possible, going through the design process was pretty straight forward. We are using existing technology, although it is not the technology normally used in residental architecture.
