DESIGN NAME: Connected Box
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kids Room
INSPIRATION: This concept is inspired by the most popular toy ever that everyone loves to play. It is designed considering a 6 years old boys needs, where he transfers from playgrounds to classrooms. In order to help him during this transition, we tried to create a room where he can study in the play area and play in the study area, even with the furniture itself.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The room has been designed for a 6 years old boy and is supposed to integrate his learning and creativity. The layout is formed according to real life, and is couraged with joyfull colors with the pursue of reflecting his fantasy world and . The wall and outlines of the room has been designed in white while the furnitures are combined with yellow, red, blue, green and black color; everything has been based on the idea of Connected Box. Inspired by the concept; square and rectangular forms has been used for the furnitures while the carpet is kept circular.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The main aim is to form various space in the same room. The wide table is designed for study and play desk with the deep drawers underneath. The platform at the end of the bed is designed as playgorund on another level. All the cabinet doors and drawers are in connected box form which gives the kid the possibility to play interactively with the furniture.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project started in September 2011 and finished in January 2012 in Gunesli, Istanbul, Turkey.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The furniture is based on white lacquer and enlivened with yellow, black, red, green and blue lacquer. These units are supported with dyed irons with the same colours, and felt is used for the cushions.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The room ise 330*320 cm; with 10,5 m² total area. The bunk beds height is 140 cm where he can reach easily and also use the wardrobe underneath. A long table (200 cm) is situated on the other wall; as children need spaces for books¬ebooks, toys and also computers.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The daily life of a 6 year old and his needs were studied, while the suitable materials were searched. The demands of the kid and the parents are considered seperately to satisfy them both.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was combining the playground with the study area while transforming the furniture into an interactive toy.
