Interview with Neslihan Pekcan at Monday 1st of July 2024 FS: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design? NP: The main principle behind our design is to facilitate the transition for a 6-year-old boy from playgrounds to classrooms. Inspired by a widely beloved toy, our idea was to create a versatile room where studying and playing seamlessly coexist. The inspiration comes from the desire to support his developmental needs in a space that encourages both learning and creativity, utilizing furniture that serves dual purposes to enhance functionality and enjoym FS: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve? NP: Our main focus in designing this concept was to create a space where a 6-year-old boy could seamlessly transition from play to study. Inspired by a beloved toy, we aimed to integrate study and play areas within the room itself. Our goal was to support his learning process while fostering creativity and enjoyment, ensuring that the environment encourages both focused study and imaginative play. FS: What are your future plans for this award winning design? NP: Our future plans for this award-winning design include expanding its reach to more markets, refining its features based on user feedback, and possibly exploring collaborations with other brands or designers to further enhance its impact and accessibility. FS: How long did it take you to design this particular concept? NP: 10 days FS: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration? NP: We designed this particular concept to facilitate the transition of a 6-year-old boy from playgrounds to classrooms. The inspiration behind this design came from a popular toy, and we aimed to create a space that meets his specific needs. The design allows him to study in the play area and play in the study area, blurring the boundaries between learning and play to support both activities seamlessly.
