| DESIGN NAME: PoLoo - Automatic Toilet for Dogs PRIMARY FUNCTION: Dogs Toilet INSPIRATION: Having dogs as pet is forcing them to live against their nature holding in pee and poo. Our objective is to protect them from urinary infections and have an appliance that cleans automatically. During winter period is difficult for elderly and disabled to take their pet outdoor. We design a easy use appliance to keep houses clean and protecting dogs of disease. We devised a minimal design to integrate with different styles of interior and the possibility to customize according to personal taste UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Automatic toilet for dogs, an appliance that can be portable but also connected to drains of the house, boat or motorhome. On the portable version all drains into hermetical sealed tank, cleans automatically and sanitized and it is odorless. This automatic toilet helps to prevent urinary tract infections for our pets. It can be handle like a briefcase and can be taken on trips, to the office, friend’s houses, hotels. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Basically the PoLoo is made on the same principle of a dishwasher. It is an electric robot that cleans and rinses the artificial grass roll. The dog owner needs to add water (only on the portable version), the sanitizing liquid and press the ON button. The PoLoo accomplishes a whole series of functions by itself: Add water (in the fix version), Automatically opens the sanitizing dispenser at the right time, Shoots the water through jets to get the artificial grass roll clean, Drains the dirty water, Roll the poo in a sealed tank directly inside a plastic bag, Leave the artificial grass dry for next use, A timer regulates the length of each cycle. A sensor detects the dog movement and makes running the PoLoo. Inside a pump propels the water up to the water jets, where it is forced out and sprayed against the dirty grass roll. When the washing and rinsing is finished, the water drains down to the tank, where the pump propels the water out of the PoLoo. Depending on the type chosen (fix or portable), the drain water might go right into the pipes under the sink, or drain into the sealed tank (easy to empty). PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The idea come up in 2008 during a sailing holiday with our three dogs. Since then we design the automatic toilet and we have researched the right materials for the production. The project was finalized on february 14, 2014 in Nichelino Torino Itay. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The PoLoo can be produced by any appliance company using alluminium, recyclable polymers with part added in wood and some colorful texture SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Small width 600 x Depth 630 x height 220 Medium width 600 x Depth 850 x height 220 Large 900 x Depth 1200 x height 220 TAGS: dog, toilet, wc, pet, appliance RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Studying the increasing number of dogs travelling with their owner in sailing boats, yachts, motohome and considering the importance of dog as pet terapy for elderly and disable people, the objective was to create an appliance that can be usefull during travels and indoor during winter periods. The impact on quality of life for dogs and people was a priority. CHALLENGE: Considering the technology already used in appliance like dishwasher, obstacle were not found to create the PoLoo. A simple idea to help dogs poo in peace, even when the weather is lousy outside. The Team was on a sailing trip with their three dogs on board - and the dogs had to 'go'. But there was nowhere to go, so Eliana, a qualified sailor, devised the PoLoo. And with best friend a designer Adnan Al Maleh, have designed something which will help not only the dogs but also those owners who are elderly or disabled and unable to get out of the house in time to improve their dogs quality of life as well as their own. Its easy to use, easy to carry, easier to clean and ideal for those living in flats who can't just open the door and let the dog out into the back garden. Also ideal for those who have motor homes, want a boating holiday and there's a real market for hotels and resorts where pets at present aren't allowed for this very reason.
