| DESIGN NAME: Tianjin Art Museum PRIMARY FUNCTION: Signage INSPIRATION: The underlying creative design idea of the museum architecture* emphasizes on an artistic “box”. It stresses on a simple and orderly modernistic space, and the aesthetics of rationalism. Our design maintains the simplicity of the space without interference by other obstructive elements. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The underlying creative design idea of the museum architecture emphasizes on an artistic ‘box’. It stresses on a simple and orderly modernistic space, and the aesthetics of rationalism. Our design maintains the simplicity of the space without interference by other obstructive elements. As the museum displays the visual works of all colors, the visual and art is the significance of its existence. Besides, 3form Chroma renewable matte were chosen as it helps reduce carbon consumption. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We chose transparent and colorless materials for the signage. By putting large numbers inside Acrylic boxes, we created the effect of the abstract and the concrete for the numbers due to the light. The font of the numbers and the height of the signage matches the language of the architecture. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We used semi-transparent stand up signage in the form of a box with a 3form Chroma renewable matte. With this approach, the semi-transparent boxes fit well with the interior space design. The stand-up signs keep the simplicity of the walls intact, and resonate with the design concept of the building. The transparent, rectangular signage is divided by a diagonal information board. Information is displayed clearly at the front of the signage, while the enlarged number of the floor is illustrated in a more subtle manner. Overall, the intriguing design of the signage provides the visitors to the museum with a sense of artistic appreciation. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 150cm X 200mm TAGS: Box, simplicity RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We did the research around the museum itself. As the concept of the architecture of the museum "box", we intents to developed a signage system that echoes to the architecture. CHALLENGE: The building of the museum itself is a classic already. How to design a signage system that doesn't disturb the architecture was the biggest challenge.
