DESIGN NAME: Exen Istanbul
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Show Flat
INSPIRATION: The project’s ambition is split between providing a modern residence on the top floor of a skyscraper and also serve as a home for growing a family. Transparency of the facade gave inspiration to the designers to create transparent or joint functioned spaces inside the house. Bold in form and fluid in function EXEN Istanbul show flat was conceived by combining the function with contemporary lines and materials. The design allows abundance of natural light and a feeling of airiness without sacrificing privacy.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The aim was to create a living space full of light and transparency that finds the perfect balance between functionality and style. Integrated sitting and dining areas are slightly separated from eachother by using different materials on the floor that are aimed to create a contemporary, elegant look. Since it is a show flat, a color scheme that would address the majority was chosen. Gray, mink and white are used as base colors.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A show home has to make the guests feel at home and imagine they live in that flat. While designing, the preference of the right materials and the colours was the essential. As designers, we also have to present them different aspects than they see in their everyday life. We tried to combine all these points and form an elegant and functional design that is modern and warm at the same time
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2013 and finished in December 2013 in Istanbul.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main research while designing this apartmanent was about the materials. The natural materials such as marble and wood were chosen after the comparison of many products, considering comfort, durability, availibility and functionality. The research aimed to use materials and the design articles that were environmentally friendly.
CHALLENGE: The planning of the apartment was a great challenge as there were very large columns, concrete walls and mechanical shafts. With a focused and detailed planning, they are hidden successfully in the final design. The en-suite bathroom was designed with curvilinear glass walls, it was an important point to be solved in the production details
