| DESIGN NAME: Sports Hall PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multypurpose Sports Hall INSPIRATION: This project has a clear and very defined masses, the Sports Area big Mass shaped with 80 degrees angle aluminum cladding facades to respond to wind load and minimize stresses, and the Administration and Arts activity mass shaped from local white and brown stone, this is a modern architecture characterized by simplification of forms with introduction of huge stone arches elements which remind us of the local architecture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Designed in just 12 weeks, this breathtaking sports hall design has raised the standard of excellence for sports activity buildings in Palestine, the new $12 million project features portal frame steel structure with spanning up to 65 mts., mounted on concrete support structure, can host 7000 spectators to enjoy Sports, Cultural or academic activities, it sets new standard for sustainable architecture, the building saves 45% of energy by generating electricity from its 4000 m2 roof PV solar panels, it's roof rainwater harvesting can reduce water consumption up to 2000 m3 per year. it's passive cooling system depends totally on a very simple cross ventilation system created by over 300 motorized windows, reducing the mechanical ventilation usage system up to 50%. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It has 10 entrances for fast evacuation on all floors, with handicapped accessibility in all levels, it enjoys natural light to minimize power consumption, with 300 motorized windows for natural ventilation and passive cooling. the building will be the center of the university academic, cultural, sports and exhibitions attractions. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project will start in January 2014 in Jenin, Palestine and finished in January 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To design this 12,000 m2 multipurpose sports hall, with spanning up to 65 mts. a coordinated plan where implemented between Architecture and Structural design considering factors such as safety and sustainability using portal frame structure for upper level, supported on concrete structure in combination of local building practices such as stone facades. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Area: 12,000 m2 7000 spectators heights : 18 mts. Spanning : 65 mts. Insulated Aluminum Cladding for the upper level. Local Stone facades for the lower level. 300 motorized windows for passive cooling and ventilation. 4000 m2 of PV solar panels 2000 m3 harvested water. average Energy savings 45% Ceiling accessibility for maintenance, and sports activity services. TAGS: Arab American University Sports Hall RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A social, financial, environmental, architectural and structural research was conducted to determine client needs and building typology and functions, during this process collected weather data, local architectural typology, building impact, beside 4 options of steel structure framing where carefully analyzed to conclude in this unique design.
