DESIGN NAME: Crombé 3.0
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Winehouse
INSPIRATION: We searched for inspiration in warehouses. Most warehouses are full of boxes, but in the end they have a decent structure. If we should only place some cardboard wineboxes on the pallets in the Crombe shop, they wouldn't have the same structure. Thats why we added the metal frames that resembles metal racks.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Crombe winehouse shop concepts goal was to have the customers experience a completely new way of shopping. Even though the wines are being presented in their original packaging, the clean lines of the metal frames still ensure familiarity and perspective. The 12 m rack houses the champagnes and lockers. Per locker, clients can safely store up to 30 bottles. These lockers can be reached via a transparent gangway at a height of 3,5 m. Next, 2 pop-up stores have been installed, made out of perforated metal, creating an airy space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The basic idea was : how can a wineshop deliver a new experience for the visitors. While the clients are walking trough the frames, they can see the wines hoovering above the ground. The are presented in the same inclination as a sommelier would do. The 12m high rack can be entered trough the offices. At the height of 4m the clients can buy their own private wine locker that can hold up to 30 bottles. While upstairs they can enjoy the view.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design started in February 2012. Starting June the shop opened in Kortrijk, Belgium.

CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to design something simple, that won't take much time to install. In fact the complete installation of the shop took 2 weeks.
