DESIGN NAME: Palm Towers
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Office towers
INSPIRATION: The Palm Towers' design intents to represent the trunk of a palm tree, emerging from the ground and rising up to 245.7m in the sky, creating a high-tech architectural embodiment of the cherished palm tree.
The first of its kind in Qatar, this design is considered a fine art in architectural and engineering fields.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inspired from a palm tree, a symbol of survival in the dead-heat desert of the Arab countries, these hexagonal towers have been designed to stand out in the skyline of the city as part of Doha's tallest towers. A simple image, rooted in the collective memory of the people, is transcended into one of the highest architectural landmarks of Doha's skyline.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Twin Palm Towers feature energy efficient systems such as water saving fixtures, efficient air-conditioning and ventilation systems, lighting and temperature controls, materials with recycled content and the reuse of existing furniture.
The interior of the Towers was designed and fitted to achieve LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies.
The south tower which hosts the Headquarters of RasGas has been awarded Qatar’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for commercial interiors with Green Building Rating System - Gold Level by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The LEED Gold award took into account the building’s interior green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was designed and launched in 2006 and was completed in 2012. It is located in the West Bay district, in Doha, Qatar.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Architecture, Building and Structure Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The full glazed elevation blends in the environment by reflecting it during the day, As the sun sets, it metamorphoses into a giant lit palm tree.
Carefully studied detail proportions enhance the building's outline and add a touch of elegance and refinement.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Each tower comprises 53 floors covered with glass divided into 3 parts by stainless steel blades mimicking the texture of the palm tree trunk.
By its symbolic form and its sharp angles the tower looks as a modern obelisk, a landmark overlooking the Doha Bay.
This slender tower with 53 levels and a total built up area of 82473 square meters has special duplex offices to cater the needs of specific Clients besides the normal offices.
